How we became GG Acres
I am Lynda. I met Craig in 2018 and as we dated, built a life together, started a family and got married we discussed our individual dreams and where we saw our individual future selves. It did not take us long to realize we wanted similar things. In 2022 we learned we were expecting our first child. We owned 15 acres about an hour east of our small condo in Austin. Our lives at that point ran on stress, caffeine and a never slow down mindset. It was taking a toll on us in several aspects of our lives. We did not want that life for our kids so we took the opportunity to make some changes.
We built a house on our land, moved to the country, I quit my job and we started a family and business that was driven by our desire for a simple, connected life. We have allowed out values of self sufficiency, community, stewardship and reliability to drive our lives and we have never been happier or more satisfied with who or where we are in life.
Our business name is GG Acres, a short hand of our families last name. Guerrero Goodspeed. I, Lynda, do most of our day to day operations and sales. Craig, who maintains a career in Austin, spends his days off devoted to our business and our family.
About Lynda
I am an 80’s kid raised in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Self reliance was a value drilled into me growing up, eating healthy or worrying about ethical eating, not so much. I was raised on fast food, Chef Boyardee and Koolaide. My favorite foods included cheese fries smothered in ranch from a local dinner and a Prego spaghetti sauce with bread.
In 2008 I moved to Ireland. This changed my perspective on food in a BIG way. I learned a lot about how food is approached in other countries and about the commercial food industry in the US. I watched Food Inc., which also came out that year, and went down a rabbit hole of research on the chicken industry in general. I took a class on local and slow eating, read countless books on it, and decided that if I ever had the opportunity to produce all or most of my own food, I would take it.
After college I pursued a career in education and developed a passion for public education advocacy. I taught sciences 8-12 then worked in administration and school operations for 5 years. On the side, I was a partial owner in a catering company. In 2022 when Craig and I had the opportunity to start our business and produce our own food, I jumped all over it. It was an emotional challenge to walk away from a career I felt passionate about, but ultimately it was the right decision for me and my family. I am so excited to be using my background in business development, education and operations to drive our business in the direction we want to go, and share our products with you!
About Craig
I was born in Houston and raised in La Grange. As a child I was infinitely curious about how things worked. I enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together again. After high School I enlisted in the Navy and served for 6 years as a submariner. Through this experience I was able to travel the world, learn about other cultures, explore other ways of life, and build my personal values and belief system.
In 2010 I discharged honorably and became interested in studying self reliance and having higher accountability for where my food came from and my impact on the bigger picture. As I learned more I developed a passion for wanting to produce my own food and live a life of self sustainability.
I feel passionately about my family and the life we are leading on our homestead. I maintain a career in Austin in the semiconductor industry. This allows me to provide for my family while working hours that maximizes the amount of quality time I am able to spend with my children and wife. I spend my days off utilizing my lifelong curiosity for how things work by engineering infrastructure improvements to the homestead and farm.
While the goal is to eventually retire and work on the farm with my wife and children, I am happy and grateful for the life I am able to live at this time. I look forward to watching our business grow and sharing a bit of my passion with you!
